When a bum knee or foot pain or back pain stop you from being able move comfortably, you want to know how to fix it.

You've probably tried a lot of things already to get rid of the pain - stretching before you work out, stretching after you work out, yoga classes, massage, heat, ice, different shoes, etc, etc. Maybe you got some results but none of those did what you were really hoping they'd do - consistently help you over the long run. You still feel like you're at the mercy of your body or, even worse, your genetics.

Remember that definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results (thank you Albert Einstein!). Repeat your poor movement and alignment habits over days and weeks and months and years (that you learned from observing how your family moved their bodies) and you'll continue create the conditions that set you up for a bum knee, foot pain, hip pain or an "angry" shoulder.

But, change the movement and alignment pieces of your pain equation and you not only give your body the chance to repair the damage that's been done but you also prevent the damage snowball - the foot pain that becomes knee pain that turns into a gimpy hip.

You can reset your movement and alignment habits. You can learn to move in a way that minimizes wear and tear on your joints and gets you back to doing what you love to do without the pain that goes along with it.

Restorative Exercise, as created by biomechanic scientist Katy Bowman, MS, teaches you how to support your joint health through natural movement and correct alignment.

This educational movement program approaches the body from an biomechanical model, free from cultural influences, which means we look beyond the smoke and mirrors of "good" posture and evaluate the nitty gritty of what's really going on using objective bony alignment markers like your anterior iliac spine on your pelvis (don't worry if you don't know what that is yet, you'll learn).

These alignment markers help us to better understand your joint position and muscle lengths and how your body supports various loads for better or for worse. You'll learn how we were designed to move, before we interrupted our innate movement programs with things like chairs, cars, shoes, etc.

Remember, under the right conditions, your body does an amazing job of regenerating & repairing itself. Unfortunately most of us have never known "the right conditions". Now you get to learn how to create those right conditions.

When you understand how your body is designed to work, you can have a positive impact on a whole variety of things like:

  • live too far away to attend a group class or in-person one-on-one


What happens during a One-on-One Restorative Exercise™ session?

We talk about your health history and your health goals. Where are you now and where would you like to be?

We evaluate 25 specific areas of your body to determine objectively how they move in relation to each other.

We evaluate your ability to stabilize and mobilize different areas of your body - we determine your particular "gaps", where you currently are and how that contributes to your current symptoms

We work to bridge those gaps - we'll use a variety of correctives (stretches, exercises and movements) to help you make changes in how your body moves and functions

We investigate and explore your movement patterns - how do you stand, how do you walk? Those little movements you do a thousand times a day without even thinking about it all add up. I help you uncover what you're doing so you can better understand why your low back hurts when you stand for more than 15-20 minutes or why your left hip aches at the end of the day.


You learn how to move the way your body is designed to move.


We investigate and explore your movement patterns. You are guided through different movements and stretches. You learn how to wake up muscles that fell asleep a long time ago and rediscover how to move parts of your body you forgot could move, like your kneecaps. You learn why it even matters whether or not you can move your kneecaps (I'm big on helping people understand the why behind what we do together). 

Sometimes you get frustrated that something so simple as moving your scapulae without tucking your pelvis is so hard. You learn to be patient with where you are and work towards where you want to be.


It will feel strange and weird as many things do when we first learn them (or relearn them from long ago). You'll start paying attention in ways you've never before paid attention to your body.

By the end of your session, we've created a plan just for you that helps you move towards your specific goals.

You'll leave your session with various exercises, stretches and movements designed to undo the damage that years of unnatural movement patterns have layered onto your body. These are skills you practice and develop in between sessions.


You learn how to move well so that your body functions well.

What if I need to reschedule after I book my appointment?

Your time is valuable, my time is valuable. You are welcome to reschedule your appointment as long as it's 24 hours before we're scheduled to meet. If you reschedule after that window has passed (barring medical or family emergency or weather interference), your payment will be applied to your original appointment. Likewise, if I make a (fortunately extremely rare) scheduling mistake and need to cancel or reschedule your appointment with less than 24 hour notice (barring illness or family emergency), you get a free session.
