'Tis the season for gift giving. Wouldn't it be great if the gifts you gave were helpful and meaningful to the person you're giving to?
With that in mind, here are some of my favorite things that have supported me in feeling better and moving better. Note, several of these links are affiliate links*.
Here are some of my favorite tools and books for supporting a healthy, movement based lifestyle.
First up, the complete selection of free webinar and movement classes I have taught on a variety of topics including pelvic floor, core strength, squats and more. Now conveniently located all in one place for you to choose from.
The Headspace app is a user-friendly meditation app. Each day you get a gentle prompt "Time for some Headspace!" delivered to your phone at your selected time. When you sign-up (totally free), you receive the Take 10 program - 10 days of 10 minute guided meditations introducing you to simple, easy-to-follow meditation tools.
After a stressful summer, this app saved my bacon and helped me stay steady and sane. I had dabbled on and off with meditation over the years, but with this app, I was far more consistent with my practice. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Know someone needing simple, practical steps to improve their health without the overwhelm? Eat Well, Move Well, Live Well is an excellent place to start. My friends, Roland and Galina Denzel, wrote this amazing book. It includes movement tips, easy ways to improve your diet, as well as strategies for decreasing stress. A great gift for you or someone you care about!
Yoga Tune Up
Jill Miller, creator of Yoga Tune Up and The Roll Model Method, has developed the ultimate self-care tools, providing you with simple ways to treat common aches and pains using a variety of self-massage techniques.
I can't say enough good things about the Yoga Tune Up balls, The Roll Model book and the DVD Treat While You Train.
Along with that, you get the added benefits of information about connective tissue, the why behind the balls, anatomy insights and inspiring stories of people regaining their health after accidents and injuries using the Yoga Tune Up therapy balls.
If you're a more visual learner, you may prefer the DVD Treat While You Train and watching demonstrations of different ball sequences.
As some of you know, I am a Nutritious Movement™ certified Restorative Exercise Specialist. Katy Bowman, biomechanist, heads up that program. She's also the author of these three books below (along with five others) that focus on the often overlooked and underestimated role that movement plays in our health.
Diastasis Recti is a guide for healing and strengthening the core, along with improving pelvic floor function. There's a comprehensive series of exercises along with simple movement tips you can implement throughout your day as well as the why behind it all.
Don't Just Sit There is the perfect book for desk jockeys who want to feel good even though they're tied to their desk. It's a lot more than just switching to a standing desk and this book guides you through simple, practical ways to take care of your whole body while you work.
Move Your DNA is for those who really want to dig into the meat of Katy Bowman's work. If you want to know why movement matters, how it impacts your health (for better or worse) and what you can start doing right now to decrease aches and pains and improve your health, I highly recommend it.
The round yoga bolster and the half dome are my two favorite pieces of equipment and they get a lot of use around my house.
Have your toes spent a lifetime crammed into shoes? Foot alignment socks can help undo the damage caused by shoes and gently stretch and align your toes to decrease bunions and improve foot health.
Strengthen your upper body
Most of us are notoriously weak and tight in our upper body because we just don't use it that much beyond driving and typing. Monkey bars are a great way to start improving this and I've written about how I use them to improve my upper body strength and mobility.
However, for many of us monkey bars require a special trip to a playground and now that it's winter here in my part of the world, playing on monkey bars can be more than a little chilling to the hands. Here's some equipment that can expand your indoor upper body options.
This door way chin up bar has a permanent place in our kitchen doorway. It's a great way to get in some stretches, swings and hanging. It untwists into our doorframe and doesn't require any screws or other installation. Heads up that it may leave a mark on your wall or door frame.
If you're working towards the goal of being able to do a full pull-up, the pull-up assist strap will help you bridge that gap until you develop the strength and mobility needed to do it all on your own.
This 4-week online course takes a whole-body approach to addressing foot issues.

Ah, the Instant Pot. How I love thee.....
I cannot say enough good things about this multi-function electric pressure cooker (also works as a rice cooker, slow cooker and more). I've bought a lot of appliances over the years that ended up just gathering dust, however, my Instant Pot is one I use all of the time. I make bone broth in an hour, roasts, chicken, amazing beef short ribs, potatoes, applesauce, coconut milk yogurt and many more recipes. It's quiet, quick, easy, and great in the summer for not heating up the kitchen.
Make your own carbonated water with the Soda Stream
My family and I are big fans of "bubbly" water, aka carbonated water. This summer we treated ourselves to a Soda Stream machine. Now we can make our own bubbly water from our filtered water at home. This means better quality water and less packaging. If you prefer something with a little more pizazz, they also make different flavors you can add. We love it!
Grain free tortillas!
As someone who doesn't tolerate grains well, I was so excited to find these tortillas!
There you have some of my favorite things! I hope they help make your gift giving easier so you can enjoy more time doing the things you love to do and spending time with the people you love to be with.
